Using Hand Signals to Manage Student Needs

2013-10-16 17.45.18I love using hand signals with my students.  This way I always know what they need when they raise their hand.

I always know they need to use the bathroom when they raise 1 finger, which helps cut back on accidents!  They know they have to raise 2 fingers to get out of their seat, so they don’t roam around my room.  If they need help, they raise 3 fingers, so I know to come over.  When they have a question they raise 4 fingers.  It is really helpful knowing what students need, and it keeps them from shouting out.  I would recommend all teachers use hand signals in their classroom!

How do you manage student needs in your classroom?
