Dr. Seuss Job Chart

First Grade students love to help out in the classroom, and let’s face it; we need all the help we can get!  When creating my Dr. Seuss themed classroom I wanted my job chart to be inspired by one of his books.  For my job chart, I tamed the mischievous characters from The Cat and The Hat, Thing 1 and Thing 2, and turned them into helpful creatures!

I created “Things” and on their bellies I put the numbers 1-7 and then I labeled each one with a different classroom job.  I place a piece of sticky Velcro in the white space where the face should be.  At the beginning of each year, I take photos of my students.  I crop these photos into 3 inch circles, and then I laminate them.  I affix Velcro to the backs and attach them to the “Things” on my job chart.

My jobs are

1. Line Leader

2. Door Holder

3. Handy Helper- Passes out and collects things

4. Board Eraser

5. Light Helper

6. Messenger

7. Pencil Sharpener- Sharpens pencils in the “Broken Cup” each morning

How do you encourage students to be helpful around the classroom?
